    The short answer

The browser can be the common layer

AirDrop is excellent inside Apple ecosystems. FCShare focuses on the mixed-device case where the sender and receiver already have a modern browser but may not share the same native transfer feature.

Smart Send adds one thing native cross-platform transfer tools often leave to the user: whether the selected photo or video is actually a good format for the receiving device.

    How to do it

    Three steps, in the browser.

    1. 1

      Open Send or Receive

Either side can show the QR code.

    2. 2

      Scan from the other device

      No account pairing is required.

    3. 3

      Transfer

Original files use the proven FCShare path; media recommendations appear only when relevant.

    Best for

    • iPhone to Windows
    • Android to Windows
    • Mac to Windows
    • Guest devices

    What stays intact

    • No app install
    • No login
    • QR handoff
    • Original file choice

    Know before sending

    • Not background device discovery
    • Pages stay open
    • Browser file-picker permissions apply
    • TURN may relay traffic

    Different from AirDrop

FCShare does not use Apple proximity discovery or Bluetooth negotiation. The QR/link establishes a temporary browser session instead.

    Mixed-device compatibility

HEIC and HEVC are common examples where successful transfer and easy playback are different questions.

    Questions people ask

Do I install anything on Windows?

    No.

    Does it work from iPhone?

Current iPhone browsers can participate, subject to browser file picker and background limitations.

    Is it always local-network only?

No. It can work across networks using WebRTC, including TURN fallback.
