PC → phone

Send files from a PC to a phone without installing an app.

Choose files on the PC, let the phone scan the room and use Smart Send only when a smaller or more compatible media copy would help.

Either way you get a code. Whichever device has a camera scans it.

    The short answer

The phone can tell the sender what matters

A phone may have a smaller screen, tighter browser storage and different codec support than the PC that created the file. Smart Send lets the receiving browser express those constraints coarsely.

The receiver can also choose Best for this device, Original quality or Smaller version as a preference. The sender still makes the final decision.

    How to do it

    Three steps, in the browser.

    1. 1

      Choose the PC file

Documents stay original; media is inspected locally.

    2. 2

      Scan from the phone

The receiver sends an ephemeral capability profile over WebRTC.

    3. 3

      Choose and transfer

The sender explicitly picks original or an available optimized copy.

    Best for

    • PC exports to phone
    • Large photos
    • Travel documents
    • Video handoff

    What stays intact

    • Sender controls quality
    • No account
    • No stored FileCarpenter copy
    • Original remains available

    Know before sending

    • Phone storage cannot be measured exactly
    • Mobile browsers can suspend background tabs
    • Video conversion support varies by sender browser and hardware
    • Both devices stay online

    Receiver preference

Preferences are advisory, not commands. They are sent through the DataChannel and disappear with the session.

    Storage language

FCShare uses phrases such as “browser storage appears limited” rather than pretending to know exact free-disk bytes.

    Questions people ask

Can the phone request a smaller version?

Yes, as a preference. The sender still approves any change.

    Are documents converted?

    No.

Does FCShare know my exact phone model?

No. The capability profile intentionally uses broad categories.
