No-cloud sharing

Send files without cloud storage.

Use a temporary browser session instead of creating an online file copy. When the transfer ends, there is no FileCarpenter library or download page left behind.

Either way you get a code. Whichever device has a camera scans it.

    The short answer

A transfer session, not a storage account

Cloud links are convenient when the recipient needs to download later. They are unnecessary when both people are available now and would rather avoid creating a stored copy. FCShare creates a short-lived room, connects the browsers, and moves the selected bytes during that session.

The distinction matters: closing the sender page stops availability, there is no inbox to manage, and FileCarpenter cannot offer a later download. If asynchronous access or long-term backup is your goal, a reputable encrypted storage service is the better tool.

    How to do it

    Three steps, in the browser.

    1. 1

      Start on either device

Choose Send if the file is already there, or Receive if the other device should choose it.

    2. 2

      Connect with a QR code

The second device joins the temporary room without creating an account.

    3. 3

      Save while connected

Accept the incoming file and keep both browser tabs open through completion.

    Best for

    • Sensitive drafts
    • One-time handoffs
    • Personal device transfers
    • Avoiding cloud cleanup

    What stays intact

    • No stored payload
    • No transfer library
    • No account profile
    • No automatic cloud copy

    Know before sending

    • Not a backup service
    • Not an expiring offline link
    • Live presence required
    • Network route may use TURN

When no-cloud sharing is the right choice

Choose it when the sender and receiver can be present together, the file does not need a permanent URL, and minimizing copies is more important than asynchronous convenience. It is especially natural for device-to-device moves and private review sessions.

    When cloud storage is better

Use cloud storage when several people need independent access, the sender cannot remain online, version history is important, or the file must be available for days. FCShare is deliberately not trying to provide those storage features.

    Questions people ask

Is anything uploaded before the transfer starts?

No. Selecting a file only gives the browser permission to read it. File bytes begin moving after the second device connects and the receiver accepts.

Does the signalling server see filenames?

The current transfer manifest with filenames is sent over the established browser data channel, not stored as a file library by the application server.

Does closing the browser delete the file?

It ends the temporary room. It does not delete the original sender file or the copy already saved by the receiver.
