4K video transfer

Send 4K video without making the recipient guess.

Keep the 4K original, but let Smart Send flag when 1080p would be a more practical target for the receiving device.

    The short answer

Resolution is only useful if the receiver can use it

A 4K file may be the right archival choice and the wrong delivery choice. Small screens, limited storage, HEVC support and moderate bandwidth can all make a smaller version more practical.

FCShare estimates that tradeoff without changing the source. When the sender browser proves it can perform the required decode/encode path, Smart Send can create the smaller version locally while it is being transferred.

    How to do it

    Three steps, in the browser.

    1. 1

      Choose the 4K file

Local inspection identifies size, codec and dimensions when they can be read safely.

    2. 2

      Connect the receiver

Screen and codec capability are shared only in coarse form.

    3. 3

      Choose quality intentionally

The original is always usable; recommended targets are clearly labeled estimates.

    Best for

    • 4K60 phone footage
    • Large camera exports
    • Phone or laptop recipients
    • Original-quality archival handoff

    What stays intact

    • 4K original unchanged
    • No automatic downscale
    • No server upload
    • Technical details behind disclosure

    Know before sending

    • 1080p transcoding depends on sender browser codec support
    • On-the-fly MP4 output uses fragmented MP4
    • Transfer still depends on upload and conversion speed
    • Playback app matters

    What “recommended” means

A recommendation combines the file properties that could be detected with a minimal receiver profile. Unknown support stays unknown instead of being treated as certainty.

    Why 1080p appears often

For many laptop and phone delivery cases, 1080p H.264 is a broadly compatible target. FCShare does not claim it is always the best archival format.

    Questions people ask

    Does 4K automatically become 1080p?

    No. Never silently.

Can I always choose the original?

    Yes.

Does Smart Send know exact screen resolution?

It sends only a broad screen class rather than a fingerprint-like precise display profile.
