QR file transfer

Send files with a QR code.

Use the camera on whichever device has one. Send and Receive can both create a room, so the QR code works in either transfer direction.

Start the transfer

Either way you get a code. Whichever device has a camera scans it.

Or open the link, or type the name.

    The short answer

The QR code replaces typing, not security

The code contains the temporary room URL. Scanning it opens the same browser session you could reach through the copied link or room name. It is especially useful when a phone needs to connect to a laptop, television, kiosk, or shared computer without typing a long address.

Anyone who can see or receive the room link may try to join while it is open. Add a room password for a sensitive transfer, and avoid displaying the QR code where unintended people can scan it.

    How to do it

    Three steps, in the browser.

    1. 1

      Pick the code screen

Choose Send if this device has the file, or Receive if the scanning device has it.

    2. 2

      Scan from the second device

Use its normal camera or QR scanner and open the recognized link in a browser.

    3. 3

      Confirm direction and transfer

The room assigns the correct sender and receiver automatically.

    Best for

    • Phone-to-laptop transfer
    • No-keyboard devices
    • In-person handoff
    • Avoiding mistyped links

    What stays intact

    • Same transfer security
    • Either-direction rooms
    • Copy-link fallback
    • Short manual room name

    Know before sending

    • QR link is not a secret by itself
    • Camera permission may vary
    • Room expires
    • Both pages must remain open

Why either side can create the room

A desktop may have the file but no camera, or it may need to receive from a phone. FCShare separates room ownership from transfer direction: Receive can show a code that makes the scanning phone the sender.

    If scanning fails

Increase screen brightness, keep the full code in view, clean the camera lens, or use Copy link. The short room name is the final fallback and can be entered through “I have a code.”

    Questions people ask

What information is in the QR code?

The temporary FCShare URL and room name. It does not contain the file itself.

Can a laptop without a camera receive files?

Yes. Choose Receive on the laptop and scan its code with the phone that will send.

    Does the QR code expire?

The room is temporary and only useful while the opener keeps it active.
