Phone ↔ computer

Transfer files from your phone to a computer.

Put the QR code on the larger screen, scan it with the phone, and choose the file on the device that already has it. No cable, account, or companion app is required.

Start the transfer

Either way you get a code. Whichever device has a camera scans it.

    The short answer

Let the computer show the code

On the computer, choose Receive. FCShare displays a QR code without asking the computer to select a file. Scan that code with the phone camera; the phone joins as the sender and opens its file picker. This direction avoids typing a room name on the phone or needing a camera on the computer.

The reverse works too. Choose Send on the computer, then scan from the phone to receive. Browser file pickers determine which photos, videos, and documents each mobile platform exposes.

    How to do it

    Three steps, in the browser.

    1. 1

      On the computer, choose Receive

A QR code and short room name appear immediately.

    2. 2

      Scan with the phone camera

Open the link in the phone browser and choose the requested file.

    3. 3

      Save on the computer

Review the filename, choose a destination when supported, and keep both screens awake.

    Best for

    • Photos from a phone
    • Downloads needed on a PC
    • One-time cable-free moves
    • Mixed operating systems

    What stays intact

    • Original bytes
    • No app installation
    • No account pairing
    • Two-way transfer

    Know before sending

    • Keep the phone browser foregrounded
    • Battery optimization can interrupt
    • Browser permissions vary
    • Large batches are safer on stable Wi-Fi

Same Wi-Fi is helpful, not mandatory

When both devices are on the same network, WebRTC may find a fast local route. The room can also work across different networks if a direct or TURN-assisted path is available. Internet access is still needed for the hosted room and signalling service.

    Avoiding mobile interruptions

Keep the browser visible, prevent the phone from sleeping, and avoid switching apps during a large transfer. Mobile operating systems may suspend background pages, which breaks a live browser connection.

    Questions people ask

Do I need to install anything on Windows or Mac?

No. Use a current browser on the computer and the phone.

Can I send from computer to phone?

Yes. Choose Send on the computer and let the phone scan the code, or choose Receive on the phone and open its link on the computer.

    Does it use mobile data?

It can if the devices are not using a local route. Check the networks before transferring a very large file.
