HEIC → Windows

Send HEIC photos to Windows without guessing.

Smart Send checks whether the receiving browser is likely to handle the original HEIC. If not, it can offer a local high-quality JPEG copy while preserving the untouched original.

    The short answer

    Compatibility without an upload service

HEIC saves space efficiently, but support varies by browser and operating system. FCShare treats that as a recipient compatibility question rather than forcing every photo through a converter.

When the sender browser can decode the selected HEIC, the optimized copy is created on that device in a worker. The original file is never overwritten and metadata removal is disclosed.

    How to do it

    Three steps, in the browser.

    1. 1

      Choose the HEIC photo

The browser inspects it locally and tests whether local decoding is available.

    2. 2

      Connect the Windows recipient

FCShare receives a minimal image-support profile.

    3. 3

      Pick original or JPEG

If a compatible copy is useful and feasible, the sender explicitly chooses it.

    Best for

    • iPhone HEIC photos
    • Windows recipients
    • Photos with uncertain browser support
    • Privacy copies with metadata removed

    What stays intact

    • Original HEIC unchanged
    • No cloud conversion upload
    • Explicit quality choice
    • Local worker processing

    Know before sending

    • HEIC decoding depends on the sender browser
    • Animated formats are not flattened
    • JPEG removes alpha
    • Metadata is removed from generated copies

    Why the sender browser matters

A browser cannot convert an image format it cannot decode. FCShare probes the actual selected file before offering the optimization button.

    Metadata privacy

A generated JPEG does not carry the original EXIF/GPS block. FCShare labels this behavior instead of silently stripping metadata.

    Questions people ask

Will the original HEIC be deleted?

No. FCShare creates a separate FileCarpenter copy and leaves the source untouched.

Can I still send the HEIC exactly as-is?

Yes. Original is always a choice.

Does this work for every HEIC file?

No. Local decode support varies; if it is unavailable, FCShare falls back to original transfer.
